Title of the paper :
Feminist Revisionist Mythmaking: Analysing resilient woman in Kavita Kanes Menakas Choice
Abstract:
In patriarchal societies, mythological literature is mostly framed by male writers. Therefore, it almost focuses on the male protagonists and their journeys. The role that women play in these epics is either submissive bystanders or the reasons for the predicaments confronted by male characters. Such prejudiced portrayal affects the mind-set of our society as these values get entrenched within our psyche and form our perceptions and in due course become a social custom. In an attempt to change this viewpoint, some Indian women writers have started a renewed and revolutionary trend by re-forming and re-visiting mythological texts from the viewpoint of the female characters. These retellings help us to comprehend these epics from quite a different outlook. This paper emphases a novel, Menakas Choice by Kavita Kane that focuses on how Menaka emerges as a strong and independent individual after ample struggle and took bold decisions to change her and others life.
