Title of the paper :
Enhancing Agriculture Diploma Students English-Speaking Skills
Abstract:
The present study aims to improve the conversational skills of Agriculture Diploma students by identifying the challenges they face while communicating orally. The study was conducted with second language learners of Agri Diploma students at Sri Krishna Devaraya College of Agricultural Sciences in Andhra Pradesh, India. The sample consisted of 20 English language majors, randomly selected from seniors, juniors, and freshmen. The study found that students face various challenges in oral communication, such as lack of confidence, fear of embarrassment, ineffective speaking instruction, and difficulty in pronunciation. Poor vocabulary was identified as the most common issue, while difficulty in understanding questions was the least common. To address these challenges, the study suggests strategies such as practicing English both inside and outside the classroom, utilizing social media platforms to communicate in English, and expressing emotions and needs in English. The findings of this research can also help teachers and instructors to better understand how to enhance the oral communication skills of Agri Diploma students.
