Title of the paper :
International perspective on decriminalization and legalization of cannabis: An analysis
Abstract:
The problems of drug abuse, addiction, and trafficking are a global problem. The most often consumed, trafficked, and cultivated illicit substance worldwide is cannabis. For thousands of years, people have utilised cannabis for its purported medicinal benefits. Cannabis is one of the psychoactive substances covered by the UN drug control system, which is based on three treaties the 1988 Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances, and the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. Its use for medical purpose is permitted. But in the recent years many countries have decriminalized and legalized cannabis for recreational use. The research paper offers a glimpse into the medicinal use of cannabis and its ill effects also. It investigates into the factors leading to decriminalization and legalization of cannabis use in various countries of the world and its impact upon the economy and health of user. Doctrinal and secondary source of data has been used in the research.
