Gender and Power
Abstract:
I begin this paper with an indication towards the well-established control system which describes and restricts the lives of women. The maps of the social and historical position of mankind and records that one portion of mankind which is restricted from every little thing, relatively all virtues, excluded from duty, responsibilities, authority, job, public posts and offices in brief, detach from power. The outline of the society we inhabit a society crossed with intertwined lines of resistance and power, a society which is capable of being described only in comparative terms, a society which must be reconstituted through a required practice of revolving around the center for the simulated center will not any more hold, a society which can be inferred only in respect of its detrimental divisions of sexuality, color, class, gender and nation. However, it is also a society with strong background of resistance and transformation in ordinary life and introduced the liberation movements. These outlines help us to describe the complicated base for the rise and unification of womens feminist politics. This paper deals with how power is associated to humiliation, control, exploitation, domination, and authority by throwing light on the sources of power and tries to conceptualise power in brief. How females experience the problems of powerlessness? And explores that particular fields where females have power in their own way and how they react to such specific power equations. It discusses how words, meanings, languages, signs, can be used as a tools of power? And how divergences in system incorporating female and male power are entailed in formulating gender. It then explore three fundamental attitudes in which feminists have approached power as a means to be reallocated, as domination or the exercise of power over someone, and as empowerment. How the idea of equality as uniformity or sameness has directed to the importance of gender inequality? How can powerless females achieve their desired goal of being powerful as males in society?
