Title of the paper :
Unheard Voices: An Exploration of Womens Struggles and Resilience in Partition Literature
Abstract:
Partition literature refers to the body of literature that emerged as a result of the Partition of India in 1947, which led to the mass migration of people across the newly drawn borders of India and Pakistan. The Partition of India was a tumultuous period for millions of people, particularly for women who bore the brunt of the violence and displacement that accompanied the partition. For many women, the partition meant forced migration, often without any belongings or family members. Women were subjected to violence, rape, and abduction by men of opposing communities, resulting in trauma that lasted a lifetime. Women who managed to escape these atrocities faced the challenge of starting their lives anew in unfamiliar territories, often without any financial or social support. This paper is an attempt to revisit the history of women through stories written in the period when the partition of India was taking place.
