Title of the paper :
Literature as a medium for fostering Cultural Competence in Law Students
Abstract:
Law and literature have been interrelated disciplines since time immemorial. However, in the last few decades, the nexus between law and literature has attracted the attention of scholars all over the world. Literature has always been employed as a tool not only to bring into light and denounce the social evils and inhumane practices prevalent in the society but also to inculcate cultural competence in human beings. Cultural competence in general is the ability of a person to effectively interact, work, and develop meaningful relationships with people of various cultural backgrounds. In the present era of globalization, cultural competence is necessary for the students of law as a legal professional has to deal with the clients of diverse cultures and classes. Literature expands their worldview to understand and respect customs and values of other cultures. Thus, this paper will focus on literature as an effective medium in enhancing cultural competence, ethics, morals and values in students of law in modern era. At present, the use of literature as a pedagogical tool for law students has helped to improve essential professional competencies that are difficult to teach in the classroom via traditional education.
