Title of the paper :
Building Identity in the Migrant Space: A Study of Zubaida’s Window: A Novel of Iraqi Exile
Abstract:
The anxieties and restlessness of migrancy have engendered the germination of the contemporary novels of the migrants. The studies related to migrants or diasporic populations have led to drastic re-readings of the traditional identity markers such as ethnicity, nationality, birthplace, roots, etc. Zubaidas Window A Novel of Iraqi Exile originally published in Arabic in 2006 and translated into English in 2008 by Iqbal alQaswini is a migrant novel that deals with the various aspects of diasporic living. This article is an attempt to read Zubaidas Window as an example of polyglossia and Rhizome literature, the genre of novel evolved out of the increasing mobility, trade, travel, capitalist developments and communication on the international arena. Zubaida represents the many migrant refugee women of Iraq who continue to exist with dual identities.
