Title of the paper :
Navigating Cultural Boundaries: Exploring Foreignizing and Domesticating Approaches in Translation
Abstract:
In the present scenario, translation is predominantly viewed as a means of facilitating cross-cultural communication, with cultural disparities posing significant hurdles for translators. The focus has shifted from merely considering language and text whether in the source or target language to prioritizing the enhancement of cultural awareness. This shift is aimed at fostering more effective interaction and mutual understanding. The translator or cultural mediators proficiency in addressing linguistic-cultural barriers hinges on their capacity to grasp the broader functioning of culture. This involves understanding the cultural and experiential logic inherent in a foreign culture that underlies the original act of speaking or writing. It also entails comprehending the image-forming capability of linguistic features, deciphering the latent cultural meaning embedded in values, and skilfully aligning these aspects with appropriate verbal and cultural responses. The purpose of the article is to provide an overview of the translation process and to investigate some of the cultural barriers, foreignizing and domesticating approaches in dealing with cultural differences, as well as the elements that may influence their selection.
