The Need For Gender Studies In the World of Patriarchy
Abstract:
The study of English Literature is always a cherishing, throbbing and wonderful experience to every English Language scholar. The various fields of studies like literature, Human Geography, History, Politics, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology donated their contribution to the Gender Studies. It is a new field of literature that draws the attention of present youth of the world around. This branch of study is an inter-disciplinary study which highlights the complex interaction of gender using the identity marks such as sex, caste, creed, religion, nation, race and ethnicity .From the Early period known, two major genders Masculine and Feminine form the primary social organization but they move on without being highly noticed. Gender points out the status of characteristics pertaining to Masculine and Feminine genders and it differentiates masculinity from Femininity. The characteristics can be biological sex, gender identity and even the social structure that rise out of sex. Gender is socially learned behaviour based on social expectation of men and women. Gender is not a Womens issue. It is a social issue.
