Volume IV Special Issue II February 2024
Name of Author :
Dr. A Revathi
Title of the paper :
Study of Spiritual Traditions in Garcia Marquezs of Love and Other Demons
Abstract:
This article focuses on the horrifying role that the church played at the time of Spanish American colonization. It centers on the superstitious notion of demonic possession held by Catholic authorities. The exorcism is a cruel treatment that torments the victims soul and psychic abilities. In most of Marquezs works, the characters represent the ideological side of the community. The cruelty of exorcism is emphasized in Of Love and Other Demons. Sierva is the victim of this cruel mistreatment. Not even in the beginning, Siervas life has been filled with happiness. Instead of rabies, an exorcism caused Siervas death. Her unquestioning faith in religion destroyed the life of an innocent girl. When the book comes to an end, Sierva decides to rebel against her struggles, but death goes on to bring peace to her tortured soul. The papers conclusion declares that an innocent girl dies as a result of peoples blind faith in religion.
