Title of the paper :
Unravelling Historical Relevance through Rongmei Naga Folktales
Abstract:
Rongmei Naga folktales are tales passed down from generation to generation as one of the means to perpetuate the essence of culture and tradition of the Rongmei tribe. These narratives have become instrumental in imparting and enhancing the knowledge of the Rongmei culture in the present society. In exploring and analysing selected folktales of the Rongmei tribe, this paper intends to examine the historicity and its significance in the contemporary era. Using qualitative method in observing the folktales, ample evidences of societal practices, interaction with other tribes and settlement in specific geography have been identified. These findings point to the fact that folktales are a great aid in tracing the history of the Rongmei tribe. Since Rongmei folktales have not been sufficiently tapped, this research opens an avenue for further research to determine the cultural identity and ascertain the historical existence of the Rongmei people.
