Title of the paper :
Crossing Frontiers and Globalized Landscapes in Salman Rushdies The Ground Beneath Her Feet
Abstract:
The paper explores how Salman Rushdie blurs the spatial frontiers and boundaries and gives a transnational scope to the characters at the same time, keeping the mindscape limitless across cultures. The paper analyzes the physical movement of the characters crisscrossing across east and west in search of love and music. Going beyond the established personal and social orders and the promising search, painful losses and the unending game of cat and mouse going even beyond earthly life. The ground and the earth itself seem to be shaking with the vibrant rock n roll as with the fortunes of the star-crossed lovers. The narrator stays true to the story even when having his own interests, longings and surprising encounters. The study finds that as Rushdie’s uncertain lovers and the worlds intermingle, the human boundaries are crossed with little mark and Vina Apsaras momentous fall into the abyss is momentarily overcome with her lookalikes, but Ormus Camas murder settles all. As Rock n roll combines elements of rhythm and blues, jazz, and country music with the addition of electric instruments. Rushdie mixes the lives of Indian and western men and women, their passions and their outcomes in a global setting.
