A Brief Study of Vegetarian Food and culture of South India
Abstract:
The Vegetarian diet of South India mainly consists of rice, legumes, grains, millets, lentils which are cultivated across many regions. Ancient recipes are passed through generations which contributes to maintain a healthy eating routine in India. Food promotes the culture of a particular place and assists people form connections with families and friends. The diet promotes healthy eating. The Human body requires essential nutrients like carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water to function. In this regard, four states of South India offer mouthwatering dishes which are special to their region. The cuisines range from soft to crispy, steamed to fried and share more diverse flavors which helps people to enjoy it. This paper on food and culture is an attempt to showcase the role of culture, heritage and tradition of people who give importance to vegetarian food.
