Name of Author :

Title of the paper :
A Comparative Study of Cultural Exploration of Nativism in Patrick Whites Voss and Margaret Laurences The Stone Angel
Abstract:
Nativism is the foremost influence over authorial mindset which has been reflected throughout their major works. In the thought process of the author there are significant influences of nativism. Laurences approach is more provincial and Whites approach is national to a large extent. Laurence tries to explain The Modest Town of Mind in her Manwaka settings however White explores The Great Australian Emptiness as a philosophical source for his native culture. Nature is the apparent element of nativism. It is mostly associated with ones own social culture. Simplicity of natural expression in Laurence and philosophizing of nature as an element to broaden the idea beyond native boundaries by White is differentially implemented by both these authors. In the study of Post-colonial context, the main comparative source for cultural setup is psychic indigenization which is variably observed in both novelists. Thus, authorial thought process, native influences and colonial point of view are the three major aspects observed in the cultural exploration in the present context.
