Title of the paper :
The Role of Indian Women in Modern Indian Society
Abstract:
Indian women played a significant role during the ancient period of India. They were provided opportunity to attain high intellectual and spiritual standards. During the Post Vedic Period, the transition in the status of women was obscure. They were constantly criticized, had no freedom, and had no place among men. They were even denied the fundamental rights that come with being human 1. Several measures were introduced to address social issues of women during the British East India Company Rule. In the Post Independence era, the Indian Constitution further strengthened women’s rights, emphasizing equality, dignity and freedom from discrimination. Various statutes have been implemented to safeguard and promote women’s rights in India. The early 20th century marked the emergence of women demanding political rights. Modern India brought about a radical change in womens position through the reform and upliftment programs 2. The evolving role of women reflects progress towards a more inclusive and balanced society. Challenges remain, but the ongoing momentum suggests a promising future for womens participation across various spheres.
