Title of the paper :
Migration as a Negotiation for Identity Crisis: An Analysis of Prajwal Parajulys The Gurkhas Daughter
Abstract:
Migrant literature is either written by migrants or tells the stories of migrants and their migration. Migrants are people who have left their homes and cultural settings and who start a new life in another setting that is, in most cases, initially strange to them. As post colonialism deals with the effects of colonization on cultures and societies ,the historical background of the Himalayan Region shows how various ethnic groups like Lepchas and Bhotiyas of Nepal have torn between Sikkim, Bhutan and Nepal as a consequence of Colonization by British and Tibetans. Prajwal Parajuly a son of Indian father and Nepali mother born in Gangtok, the Sikkim region of north-eastern India, an upcoming promising writer has dealt with various issues of various ethnic Nepali people in his collection of short stories titled The Gurkhas Daughter published in the year 2013. The present paper intends to analyze few selected stories of The Gurkhas Daughter where characters assort for migration to west in quest for identity and face hardships to settle in the west.
