Embracing Multilingualism: The Future of Legal Language in India
Abstract:
India, with its rich linguistic tapestry and cultural diversity, stands at the point of a transformative shift in its legal landscape. This article examines the evolving role of multilingualism in shaping the future of legal language in India and explores the potential of multilingualism to enhance accessibility, inclusivity, and efficiency within the legal system. Drawing upon interdisciplinary perspectives from law, linguistics, and technology, it delves into key strategies for promoting linguistic diversity within the legal apparatus, including multilingual legal education, and technology-driven solutions. The article highlights the benefits of embracing multilingualism in fostering legal literacy, cultural sensitivity, and community engagement. Moreover, it explores the implications of multilingualism for legal discourse, and social cohesion, offering insights into the ways in which a multilingual approach to legal language can enrich legal practices and promote equitable access to justice. Furthermore, this article aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the complexities and opportunities inherent in Indias multilingual legal landscape, and to find some solutions for legal practitioners, and scholars seeking to navigate the future of legal language in India.
