Title of the paper :
Collective Memory in the Works of David Dabydeen: A Diasporic Journey of Indo-Caribbean Communities
Abstract:
The Indian diaspora plays a pivotal role in preserving and promoting Indian culture abroad. Festivals like Diwali, Holi, and Navratri are celebrated with great enthusiasm, showcasing Indian traditions and customs to a global audience. The Indian diaspora is a powerful force in the global economy and a vibrant contributor to cultural diversity. Their economic contributions drive growth and innovation, while their cultural influence fosters greater understanding. David Dabydeen, a Guyanese-born British writer, explores themes of food and ethnicity within the Indian diaspora in his novels. His works often reflect the complex interplay of cultural identity, memory, and migration, particularly focusing on the experiences of Indo-Caribbean communities. In novels like The Intended and Disappearance, Dabydeen delves into how food serves as a marker of identity and a link to cultural heritage for characters navigating life in postcolonial settings.
