The Woman Question: A Deliberation by Diaspora Woman Writer- Jhumpa Lahiri
Abstract:
Women are an integral part of human existence and civilization.in the world. The Woman Question, a term historically associated with discussions about the status and rights of women, is analyzed through the lens of authors who navigate the complexities of identity, gender, and culture in the diaspora. These writers offer unique perspectives that challenge and enrich the discourse surrounding feminism and the role of women in society. Lahiri, known for her nuanced portrayal of the immigrant experience, often delves into the complexities of female identity, particularly within the context of the South Asian diaspora. This paper examines how her characters navigate the intersections of gender, culture, and tradition, highlighting the struggles and resilience of women. Through an analysis of selected short stories and novels, the paper aims to illustrate how Lahiri addresses issues such as patriarchal constraints, cultural expectations, and the quest for autonomy. The study concludes that her works offer a critical perspective on the evolving role of women in contemporary society. She offers unique perspectives that challenge and enrich the discourse surrounding feminism and the role of women in society.
