Title of the paper :
Multicultural Musings in Khaled Hosseinis and the Mountains Echoed
Abstract:
Diasporic literature has received wide currency in the present times as more and more people travel out of their home lands and settle in distant countries. Once in their new homelands, the diaspora often remains segregated in the beginning only to be reminded of their diverse cultures. After many years of seclusion and alienation, slowly cultural barriers are overcome and assimilation into receiving communities unfurl. Khaled Hosseinis And the Mountains Echoed offers many facets of multicultural experiences of the plethora of characters portrayed in the novel. The diaspora carves a niche for themselves by coming to terms with their new identities and integrating into the host communities. Hosseinis portrayal of the nuances of diaspora thought processes, which at times reflect autobiographical elements, calls for detailed analysis and forms the crux of the study. The paper also tries to figure out the tumultuous mindscapes of the myriad characters in relation to their motherlands.
