Title of the paper :
Manifestation of Bicultural Ambivalence in Jhumpa Lahiris The Namesake
Abstract:
At present times, people of one country are migrating to other countries in search of betterment. Migration causes many troubles in the life of people. The diasporic literature functions as a tool to discuss the predicament and problems of people due to cross-cultural encounters in migration. As a result, Diasporic literature has emerged as a disjunctive and popular genre in the field of English Literature. Exile, memory and desire are three concepts, which are of prime focus in the writings of Diaspora. The abrupt change in the lifestyle, culture, status, society causes emotional and psychological problems. However, facing such a stated condition makes the immigrants and their generations feel dilemma and confusion to choose and practise their present culture. The dual cultures lead them dealing with double feelings which contradict each other. The contradictory feeling that is caused by certain matter, people or action at the same time can be claimed as ambivalence.
