Title of the paper :
Impact of Western Culture and Feministic Views in the Works of Chitra Banerjee- A Study
Abstract:
This paper examines the female characters in the anthology of short stories by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, in her book Arranged Marriage. Each female character is portrayed and narrated with different stories about the challenges they faced in their lives, such as marriage, domestic abuse, diasporic life etc. This research focuses on feminist and diasporic lifestyles, repressed sexuality, and identity. In this anthology, Chitra Baneerjee describes the protagonists root lifestyle as Bengal, which is an austere old-fashioned culture. Most of the male characters are NRI employees, where they feel their wives shouldnt expect their own space it is clear still there are men who are male chauvinists who become arrogant and revelation in their own ways. This anthology raises questions about these ideas and ushers in the identification crisis faced by the women in the society.
