Title of the paper :
Diasporic Divulgences in Ambais Women Characters
Abstract:
Ambai in her short Stories, A City that Rises from Ashes, Journey 22, A Red Necked Green Bird, Two Empty Chairs explore the Psychological disturbances in the poignant women characters of Indian Diaspora - Kammu, Kammuma, Maria, Mythili, Thenmozhi, Louisa, Emilia and these women characters like the nuns of Kerala working abroad Journey 22. These stories traverse the spacial and temporal shifts of constructs such as Culture, Politics, Caste, Class, Gender, Age and Ethnicity. A woman’s strained relationship with the elusive nature of time is reflected in the characters of Mythili and Thenmozhi with the Head of the family Vasanthan which suffers weathering and erosion over the course of many years in the story titled A Red Necked Green Bird’. In Journey 22, Ambai portrays the frail women characters who become stronger over the years toiling abroad like the narrator, and Maria of Journey 22. These stories travel to different cities, regions and cultures across the world but they stick to Indian Women as Protagonists. The experiences of these characters explore varying cultures through interactions that result out of multiculturalism of the globalised world.
