Title of the paper :
Echoes of Exile: Exploring Diaspora and Identity crisis in Benyamins Jasmine Days
Abstract:
A translated work of fiction, The JCB award winning novel, Malayalam author Benyamins Jasmine days, present a realistic picture of social, historical, and religious context surrounding the migrant communities amidst the political and religious upheavals in an Arab nation. The novel delves into the complex themes of diaspora and identity crisis through the lens of the protagonist Sameera, a young Pakistani women working in an Unnamed middle eastern Country. Sameera torn between her roots and her foreign land she inhabits, represents the struggles of diaspora, grappling with a sense of belonging in a world that feels both familiar and alien. The novel explores how displacement exacerbates the crisis of identity, with characters caught in a liminal space between cultures. The novel is set against the backdrop of the Arab spring, highlighting the turbulent political landscape that forces the characters to confront their fragmented identities. Jasmine days paints a poignant picture of the internal conflicts faced by those in the Diaspora, emphasizing the search for self-amidst external chaos and cultural dislocation. It highlights the tension between different cultural identities in the gulf region as well as the difficulties faced by the women in conservative societies.
