Title of the paper :
Existential Crisis and Cultural Hybridity in Diaspora Communities
Abstract:
This paper looks at how cultural hybridity affects people living in the diaspora. Diaspora communities are made up of individuals whose historical and personal narratives of migration and displacement force them into the mental and emotional path of having to reconfigure not just their physical spaces of living but also cognitive and emotional recalibrations of their so-called private and public selves. It is a study of the reconfigured selves of women and men as writers from the spaces of their diaspora communities, using the works of Jhumpa Lahiri and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The characters in both authors works encounter life-and-death choices when they are moved into Western cultures. The pivotal moments of their lives, which both authors focus on, offer scenes ripe for character development. The paper employs intricate case study methods to provide a more layered and detailed understanding of the phenomena at hand. These phenomena relate to the broader conditions of cultural hybridity that are becoming ever more prevalent and are, in turn, producing significant existential effects and consequences. The study aims to contribute to a more systematic understanding of cultural hybridity and its very important and significant existential ramifications.
