Title of the paper :
Navigating Cultural Trauma: Diasporic Identity and Displacement in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah
Abstract:
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichies Americanah intricately explores the complexities of diasporic experiences and the psychological impacts of cultural dislocation. Through Ifemelus journey, the novel delves into cultural trauma, exile, and migration, highlighting how the search for identity on foreign land often results in alienation. This study examines how the Americanah portrays enduring psychological wounds inflicted on immigrants daily struggles, as they navigate racial, social, and cultural boundaries in their quest for belonging. By addressing the themes of otherness, displacement, and identity negotiation, this paper underscores the significance of cultural trauma in shaping the diasporic narrative. Adichies work not only reveals the suffering of African emigrants but also critiques the socio-political forces that perpetuate these experiences. In doing so, Americanah stands as a vital text in contemporary postcolonial literature, offering a poignant commentary on the challenges of migration and the search for the self in a globalised world.
