Showcasing the Pathetic Plight of Diasporic Women: A Study of the Movies Khaddama and CU Soon
Abstract:
The term Diaspora refers to the dispersion or scattering of people away from their original home land or community. Even as the diaspora suffer marginalization, women suffer double marginalization as a woman and also as a diasporic person. Women from many States and cultures are restricted from having a life of their own and they are always deprived of rights. Indian film directors have tried to bring out the woeful, distress and depressed state of the Indian diasporic women through their movies. After the release of such films, it was made to understand that how Indian diasporic women are exploited in the Middle East countries. They are emotionally tormented and physically abused as well. This paper is an attempt to establish the unchangeable harassment and oppression faced by Indian diasporic women in different periods, through an in-depth study of the movies Khaddama directed by Kamal and CU Soon directed by Mahesh Narayanan.
