Title of the paper :
Preserving Roots and Embracing Change: Diaspora and Hybridity in Monica Alis Brick Lane
Abstract:
Diaspora refers to the dispersion of people from their homeland, leading them to form communities in different regions. Hybridity is the blending of cultural elements from the diverse backgrounds of these dispersed communities. Cultural mixing can lead to new and exciting forms of self - expression that combine old traditions with new influences. Monica Alis Brick Lane masterfully deals with the themes of diaspora and hybridity. The novel tells the story of Nazneen, a Bangladeshi immigrant who moves to London and has to find her way in a new and unfamiliar culture. As she tries to balance her traditional upbringing with the challenges of life in a new country, the novel highlights the struggles of living between two worlds. The paper discusses how the book shows the difficulties of preserving ones cultural roots while also adapting to a new environment. Additionally, the paper tries to analyse the experiences of second-generation immigrants in the novel, who often feel caught between the culture of their parents and the culture they grow up in. This paper will help us to understand how Brick Lane reflects the experiences of immigrant communities and the complex process of forming a cultural identity in a multicultural society.
