Title of the paper :
Comparative analysis of Identity politics and Cultural Fluidity: Jhumpa Lahiris Diasporic Narratives
Abstract:
This research paper examines the interrelation between diasporic and transnational identities, which, by nature, are fluid identities in a global context, as portrayed by characters in narratives written by Indian Diasporic authors. The central argument is that an underlying theme of displacement and alienation is explored through the lens of intergenerational conflict in stories written about diasporic households, which contributes to the nuanced understanding of hybrid identities. To substantiate this claim, the narratives written by Jhumpa Lahiri, Unaccustomed Earth and When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine, are used- written from two different perspectives of the same spectrum. The research methodology chosen is qualitative analysis, and its strategy is narrative inquiry. The expected outcome of this paper is to explore diasporic narratives and understand the processes of fluid and cultural identity formation in a diasporic community. Furthermore, the research contributes to ongoing debates about globalisation, migration, and cultural change.
