Title of the paper :
The Relationship Between Translation Competence and Cognitive Processing
Abstract:
The research aimed at investigating the relationship between translation competence and cognitive processing. The sample of the research was 100 of Iraqi EFL students or University of Mosul divided into two groups one experimental group receiving specific strategy training and control group was taught using regular instruction by the same instructor. A pre-post test to measure students performance in creative writing activities was administered to all students who participated in the study. Its validity and reliability were verified. Relevant statistical analyses related to means, standard deviations, and one-way ANOVA test were used. The results revealed that students translation competence of the experimental group was improved in comparison to regular instruction. The findings also showed that there were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group due to the method of teaching. Moreover, the results showed that the experimental group that was taught using cognitive strategies highly positive overall attitude regarding using cognitive strategies in translation. Finally, the research ended up with some conclusions, recommendations, and suggestions for further research.
