Title of the paper : An Analysis of Dasein in Annie Proulxs Postcards

Abstract: In a bid to carry out the philosophical analysis of man, this paper will apply the Martin Heideggers concept of Dasein in the novel Postcards. Proulxs novels have a constructive impact on the mind of its readers to raise mankind and its living conditions. In her all novels all characters but specially the protagonists face self-alienation and quest for their self- identity. The novels of Proulx explore the existential predicament of con temporary people living in a post-industrial society. Her characters are on the journey of quest to get to know who they really are. It lays focus on the existence and the ways humans find existing themselves. Annie Proulx had explored this philosophy in a very exhaustive manner to bring out the alienation and isolation of her characters. The purpose of the paper will be achieved by taking philosophical appraisal as a necessary measure to study the authentic mode of existence of human life. It comes to the conclusion that man is a being in the world in the midst of unavoidable limitations and facticity. The findings of the study bespeak of the main character Loyal Blood, who has been portrayed as Dasein as being in the world with all its facticities and limitations. As an existentialist individual, Loyal Blood tries to find his existence by engaging himself in the facticities and limitations of the world.
