Title of the paper :
Identity, Alienation, and Post-Colonial Struggles in Susan Abulhawas Mornings in Jenin: A Diasporic Perspective
Abstract:
Susan Abulhawas Mornings in Jenin intricately explores the Palestinian diaspora through the saga of Amals family, beginning with the 1948 Nakba. The novel addresses key themes of diaspora and identity crisis, as Amals displacement from Palestine and subsequent life in refugee camps illuminate her struggle to preserve her cultural heritage amidst statelessness. The narrative delves into diaspora and ethnicity, depicting the profound alienation and disconnection experienced by Palestinians forced into migration and immigration. Abulhawas portrayal of Amals life reflects broader issues of diaspora and colonialism or post-colonialism, revealing the ongoing impact of displacement on personal and collective identity. The novel also engages with diasporic literatures stylistic and linguistic issues, blending personal tragedy with the broader post-colonial context. Through Amals generational trauma and resilience, Mornings in Jenin highlights the complex dynamics of maintaining identity in the face of historical and cultural upheaval.
