Title of the paper :
A Study of Unhomed Spaces and Transitional Identity in Chaman Nahals Azadi
Abstract:
Chaman Nahal, the prominent Indian English author, in his novel Azadi, in a very comprehensible manner portrays the trauma of Partition in the lives of innocent people. The present paper examines the impact of Partition which leads the lives of millions of people to the traumatic end where the characters navigate displacement and loss. This study highlights the concept of unhomed spaces and transitional identity where a persons identity is hung between two selves. This study analyses how Political Upheaval such as Partition and migration not only tore the land into two parts but also played an important role in the fragmentation of the self of individuals. The term Unhomed Spaces describes the mental and physical upheaval of individuals who are cut off from their traditional identities and ancestral places go through. The purpose of this research is to further the conversation about identity formation in times of mass migration.
