Title of the paper :
Ecocritical Dimensions in Diasporic Fiction: A Study of Anita Desais Fire on the Mountain
Abstract:
This paper explores Anita Desais novel Fire on the Mountain from an ecocritical perspective. Diaspora writers typically focus on immigration, identity, and belonging, but also explore environmental concerns. Desais novel combines the experiences of diasporic displacement with environmental degradation, showing the connection between human and natural worlds. The novel portrays the Indian diasporas experience as linked to the natural environment and the search for a sense of home. It explores ecological themes like deforestation, pollution, and climate change alongside the characters struggles with identity, belonging, and displacement. By applying ecocritical theory, we gain a deeper understanding of diasporic fiction and its ability to address global issues like environmental degradation and cultural identity. This approach expands our understanding of the genre and its relevance to contemporary concerns.
