Anguishes of Female characters in Margaret Atwoods Oryx and Crake
Abstract:
Trauma is an emotional reaction to any incidents which are terrible like rapes, accidents, loses and other disasters and it is one of the most debated emotional problems in the contemporary world. If it is not diagnosed in the beginning, it will create incurable health issues for the victim. Trauma will affect both the mind and the body because it is associated with physical health issues like headache, nausea and chronic fatigue. Both men and women are equally affected by trauma but considering deep, women are more in number. Female trauma is a most discussed term at present. In Margaret Atwoods Oryx and Crake, the female characters Oryx and Sharon face many traumatic situations in their life. Oryx is one of the major characters in the novel along with Snowman and Crake. Oryxs trauma starts from the after effects of her bad childhood experiences and Sharons trauma begins after her marriage. Oryx finds her way to positivity through many other activities. In the case of Sharon, she left her married life to make her life meaningful. Atwood’s novel Oryx and crake is published in 2003 as science fiction. Atwood has described the novel as speculative fiction which contains many other themes. It is also a climate change fiction in nonlinear narration.
