Special Education: Todays Challenges and Best Practices
Abstract:
Children with exceptional disabilities have a lot of potential, but the public in general is often ignorant of it. In most cases, special needs are identified with relatively low expectations. Parent should believe in the value of educating children with special needs. The higher the expectations, the more likely they will be accepted into the family. It is often believed that the social security of families with children with disabilities is very important, as these families often have higher living costs and fewer earning opportunities. Moreover, the early years of a childs life are critical for their physical, emotional and social development. Therefore, we have to invest utmost care and attention to children with disabilities who struggle academically and behaviorally. In this article, we aim to research on how children with disabilities face many difficulties and obstacles in exercising their rights and getting their education even after having inclusive education in India. This area of education is still challenging and we have to adopt new strong laws and policies to strengthen the special education area even further. We must establish new possibilities to start a dialogue among all the relevant parties- governmental and non-governmental bodies, professionals in the field of social services, health care, and education systems, as well as parents and children- about ways to ensure that children with disabilities, like all other children in the country, have equal opportunities to live dignified and productive lives. A comparative study of special education in India and abroad America, China and Thailand will be studied in this article and furthermore our focus will be on todays situation of children with disabilities which will be discussed in six areas- discrimination, poverty and social security, education, family living, health care, and protection against violence and abuse.
